Robert Frank Award Competition

This is the most prestigious scientific award provided by CED-IADR. From the CED-IADR 'Robert Frank Award Winners', up to three winners will be selected by a jury to represent CED-IADR at the IADR Unilever Hatton Award Competition during the next General Session & Exhibition of IADR.

The CED-IADR Robert Frank Award competition has 3 categories: JUNIOR, SENIOR/Basic Science Research & SENIOR/Clinical Research.

How to proceed in 2020

1. Complete the online form at the link and submit your abstract before July 8, 2020.

2. Your abstract will be reviewed by 3 jury members, based on which a pre-selection of applicants will be made. You will receive an acceptance/rejection notification by email around August 4, 2020.

3. If pre-selected, you will be asked to upload a 5-10-minute video before August 28, 2020. In the video, candidates are expected to present themselves and their abstract using 4 slides (without animation or movies). There will be no Questions & Answer session. Candidates’ presentations are as follows:

  • Slide 1: The Introduction presents the purpose of the study or shortly identifies the research question.
  • Slide 2: The Materials & Methods briefly describe the procedures, materials and/or drugs employed. If applicable, mention the sponsors of the study.
  • Slide 3: The Results reports on the significant findings. Graphics should emphasise key factors and provide any necessary visual information.
  • Slide 4: The Conclusion(s) briefly summarises the findings; how they answer the research question(s), and how they are based on or demonstrated by the experimental data.

4. The Robert Frank jury committee (2 external jury members, 1 CED-IADR Board Member) selects up to two winners per award. The winners will be granted a prize consisting of either 1,000 EUR + 1-year free membership (first prize) or 500 EUR + 1-year free membership (second prize).

5.  From the CED-IADR 'Robert Frank Award Winners', up to three winners will be selected by the jury to represent CED-IADR at the IADR Unilever Hatton Award Competition during the next General Session & Exhibition of IADR in 2021. Each selected candidate's airfare, hotel accommodations for four nights, and IADR meeting registration fees are covered by the IADR Global Headquarters.

6. The winners will be announced at the 2020 CED-IADR online General Assembly (GA) (September 2020). The winners’ online attendance is mandatory in order to be recognised and receive the award. More information on the GA will be communicated in due time.

Competition

The competition usually takes place on the Wednesday afternoon during the CED/PER-IADR congres.

Usually, the CED-IADR competition jury consists of 3 members (from which at least 1 is a CED-IADR Board Member) specialised in different scientific fields. The CED-IADR Secretariat ensures that the jury members have no conflict of interest with any of the competitors.

Each jury member receives an individual score sheet, which they are to complete individually and independently. Upon completion, the score sheets are collected by the CED-IADR Secretariat, who will calculate the average score of the 3 jury members. In the next stage, the award winners are selected.

Judging Criteria (equally rated):
